Yashima is a peninsula protruding into the Seto Inland Sea. Prefectural Route 150, surrounded by the sea, is perfect for cycling. Linked with Prefectural Route 36, which circles the Aji Peninsula, this route is perfect for enjoying the beautiful landscape of the many islands on a bicycle! START 10:20Michi-no-Eki Genpei no Sato Mure

This roadside station has a souvenir section, offering a wide array of local Kagawa and Shikoku specialties. There is a restaurant here too that is popular because of its fish dishes prepared by local women. This facility also has restrooms and an information station, making it a perfect place for making preparations before you start. Stone sculptures are displayed on the premises because it is located in the Aji-stone excavation area.

True to the concept, “a park that makes you feel the landscape of Seto,” this park commands a panoramic view of the islands in the Seto Inland Sea. You can enjoy seeing and touching the sculptures, which are displayed in a way integrated with the landscape. The watch-shaped observation deck is a work of art from the Setouchi Triennale 2016. The watch face is designed to function as a sundial.

12:30Takei Kan'on Cape

The northernmost point of Shikoku is the northern tip of the Aji Peninsula. Run down a sloping road from Prefectural Road 36, which runs around the Aji Peninsula. At the end of the road, you will find the stone monument indicating the northernmost point of Shikoku. In the back is Takei Kannon Temple, where IKOMA Chikamasa, who built Takamatsu Castle, and MATSUDAIRA Yorishige, the first lord of Takamatsu, are said to have enshrined Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokiteśvara) as the guardian god of Takamatsu Castle's demon's gate.

This building is reproduction of the set of the Amahira Photo Studio, which appeared in the 2004 film Crying Out Love in the Center of the World. You should also see the filming locations nearby!

Tateishi Port in eastern Yashima is blessed with natural terrain. It has been used by a large number of ships since before the Meiji period (1868 to 1912). The Aji-stone quarry on the opposite shore creates an overwhelming view of the rough rock face.

This bakery's old-fashioned building is a renovated 80-year-old barn. The Danish pastries and Japanese white bread are recommended. The bakery always has ten different kinds of colorful Danish pastries with seasonal fruits on them. Many runners and cyclists are repeat customers, which also has bicycle racs.

GOAL 15:20Uro Coast

The Uro Coast on the west side of Yashima commands a panoramic view of Takamatsu Port on the opposite shore. At sunset, you can appreciate the beautiful contrast between the red sky and sea and the shadowy islands.

When you have completed the cycling route through Aji and Yashima, you can either keep riding to the city center of Takamatsu. The distance to the city center is about 5 kilometers if you use Route 11.
